Pinched Nerves
Did you ever bang your elbow on a hard object? It's painful isn't it? Perhaps you have been to the dentist with a painful toothache and found out that you have an infected root and need a root canal. In can ruin your whole day!
Chiropractors use the term "pinched nerve" - a term for pressure on the nerve. The pain can be severe enough to send you running to your chiropractor's office to relieve the pressure.
What are these nerves? First, they carry messages from our brain to every part of our body. They control the function of every organ and tissue in our body. They are so extensive that laid end-to-end, our nerves would wrap around the world!
In the case of a banged elbow, our nerves send a message to our brain that our elbow wasn't in the right place, or in the case of the aching tooth, that there is a problem (decay) that needs immediate attention.
The central nervous system is so important because it is the only system totally enclosed in bone. When impinged or irritated, the nervous system causes a decrease or increase in the organ function controlled by the irritated nerve. The end result can be disease.
You may not get an immediate "problem" message from an impinged nerve as you would from a banged elbow because the impingement may cause a slow decrease in function rather than an immediate loss.
Nerves get "pinched" or impinged when the vertebrae get slightly out of alignment. This could be caused by a variety of ways, such as an auto accident, years of poor posture or improper lifting techniques.
The symptoms of nerve impingement could be as varied as difficulty sleeping to difficulty walking because of pain in the legs. Those who suffer from immediate and severe pain know that there is an immediate need to correct the problem. But most pinched nerves have hidden messages and the symptoms may not be anything we would associate with a pinched nerve. Like the decayed tooth, in time they do damage so it must be corrected.
A chiropractic doctor is the most properly trained professional to dianose a vertebral subluxation and correct the damaged "pinched" nerves through proper treatment. That way, full function may return to the tissues and organs of your body. This can assure you have an easier trop to health and wellness.
